African men, the New Testament contradicts the Old Testament in many ways. In this first of two part series, I hope to present evidence showing how the New Testament falls to uphold the Laws of God.

 

In Deuteronomy fourth chapter, second verse, in the King James Version of the Bible reads, "Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD thy God which I command you."

 

Also in Deuteronomy, 4:40, it reads, "Thou shall keep therefore His statues, and His commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and that thou may prolong thy days upon the earth which the LORD thy God give thee, forever.

 

In these verses, God instructs Moses to speak unto the Children of Israel concerning His laws. God tells Moses to instruct the Israelites to never break or abandon His laws which will ensure that all will be well with their nation.

 

God also instructs that we shall neither change nor dismiss the authority of His laws.

 

However, in Matthew 1:17 of the New International Bible, seems to contradict the aforementioned verses in Deuteronomy. Matthew 1:7 reads, Do not think that I have come to Abolish the Law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish them but to fulfill them."

 

Galatians 2:16 reads, "Know that a man is not justified by observing the laws, but by faith in Jesus Christ."

 

Though the New Testaments verses notes Jesus' acknowledgement of God's Laws as given to Moses and the Children of Israel, as well as the acknowledgement of the prophets of the Old Testament are real and true, these New Testament verses illustrates how it disagrees with God's Laws as written in the Old Testament.

 

It seems the New Testament is saying that we may be justified by faith in Christ without observing the Laws, because by observing the law, no one will be justified (additional reference can be found in Galatians 3:25).

 

Simply put, the New Testament has gone against the Laws of God by ignoring the laws and casting them out. We've become separated from the covenant that binds us to God. This hinders our ability to achieve unity with God and peace among our people.

 

The teachings of the New Testament has cause us to break the Laws. There is one God who is our King. His laws are everlasting and His power is infinite. Humbling ourselves to God's Laws bring salvation and obeidence to His laws rewards redemption.
